Educators' Trust India (ETI)

Neeta With The Children in the SlumEducators' Trust India (ETI) is now three years old and we celebrated our anniversary in February with a series of fund raising song and dance performances by our children at restaurants in the Baga and Calanguate area. We are very grateful to the management and staff of Nick's Bar, the Phoenix and Heatwave for their support and to all of you who came along and cheered the children as they put on their own performances of "Glee".

When we look at our children in their school uniforms or playing on the beach during their weekly outing, it's sometimes hard to remember that these are the same children who once were unable to go to school or have a future. As many of you know, we run two schools, Leading Light and New Light and we also offer an outreach programme, Morning Light.

This takes help and support to where it's needed and consists of a mobile team of a doctor, teachers and volunteer well wishers who wash, feed and treat the children. We give them food, love, medical treatment and dedication. We give them a future. Resident doctor and retired British GP Dr. Dhiru Mistry writes that:

"Over the last few months with the Morning Light project, we have seen the difference in these children: they are happy, playing, learning, keen to clean their hands before eating, happy to have their hair washed, have a bath, to have fun. The trust they have developed will help them. The children are now healthy, with no scabies infestation or head lice. We've also worked at the slum to help the environment; we cleaned up the field, picked up broken glass and burned all the garbage. We see this as part of their education."

"Together we can make a difference Teacher Neeta with mothers and children at Morning Light"

How you can help

As the holiday season in Goa draws to a close, Diego Baptist, founder of Educators' Trust India and the charitys leadership team are now planning their next schedule of activities. They are better able to plan if they know what funds are going to be available to them, which is why regular donations such as a standing order or paying through Just Giving are particularly helpful because they allow us to plan, ensuring we have the resources to cope with the increasing numbers of children we want to help .

For more information on donating contact Sue Pugh at the UK Office or visit our website— www.educatorstrustindia.org

Volunteering Experience

Face Paint"The volunteering experience enriched my life pricelessly and now I am doing everything possible to help and support those beautiful angels forgotten by the Indian society... " - Sabrina, London

"The highlight of our holiday was meeting the children & your team, I hope the children enjoyed their presents & clothes, the children are a credit, very polite & loving, wish we could have brought them home with us. I have just booked to stay at the Whispering Palms over the Christmas and New Year period, I have started collecting clothes, toys etc; nearer the time we can confirm how many Christmas presents would be required & approx ages as I am going to write to a few organisations in the hope they might donate items. We would love to visit you & help out while we stay." - Rebecca and family, Yorkshire
