New Light
New Light is one of our two schools where the children begin their education proper, and are acclimatised to a classroom environment. We also work with the children's parents to ensure that they understand the need to allow their children to come to school and to build a better future for them. All children attending the centre receive a hot meal and snack. We also provide any necessary medical care.School for our children is a huge change from their previous lives of hunger and either begging or selling trinkets on the beach. Thanks to the generosity of your donations, the children can learn, play and have a different type of future. We provide meals which are cooked in-house and are designed to fulfil their nutritional needs. We also give medical support, which is provided by Dr. Dhiru Mistry. He runs a clinic, attending to minor ailments (often foot related – our children are usually barefoot and suffer with cuts and infections), we also use your donations to provide hospital based medical care if necessary; sadly, due to the unsanitary conditions in the rural slums, we do often see children hospitalised through drinking dirty water. Part of Dr Mistry's work entails helping the parents to understand about the need for clean water, clean hands and good nutrition.

Moving on Up! (Krishna Success Story)
Due to the financial situation of Krishna's family, Krishna was sent out to work in 2009 to work in a bar when he was just 10 years of age. A concerned bystander reported him as an underage worker to the Child Protection Commissioner and as a result Krishna was arrested & detained in a Rehabilitation Centre.
Krishna's parents were distraught and approached Educators Trust to help them get Krishna released. With Diego's help the Child Welfare Committee finally agreed to release Krishna provided that the parents allowed Krishna to attend school. Krishna started at the 'New Light' Special Training Centre before moving on to 'Leading Light' (Main Educational Centre) in 2010. Krishna proved to be a fast learner and moved into a main stream school in 2011. He continues to keep in touch with the Educators Trust attending Leading Light School every afternoon for extra tuition and curricular activities.
