Painting With Their Hands

Inspiring Light

It became apparent early in 2011 that there was a need for another project to enable us to reach more children who were in desperate need of our support. Opened in November 2011 the building which is now Inspiring Light is in need of some major renovation work to allow it to be used to its full potential. Based in Calangute approximately five miles from New Light School, the school has a potential of providing up to sixty children with an education and the necessary nutritional and medical care; though in its present state we are limited to a maximum of just thirty. We work with the children as they gradually become accustomed to a classroom environment learning English and Maths and enjoying crafts, singing and dancing. With a self-contained kitchen we are able to provide the children who attend with a hot meal and snack.

Dr. Dhiru Mistry runs a clinic at the school attending to minor ailments (often foot related – our children are usually barefoot and suffer with cuts and infections), we also use your donations to provide hospital based medical care if necessary; sadly, due to the unsanitary conditions in the rural slums, we do often see children hospitalised through drinking dirty water.  Part of Dr Mistry's work entails helping the parents to understand about the need for clean water, clean hands and good nutrition.
